This is the Health 7 self-learning module for Quarter 1, Module 2, titled “Practices to Holistic Health.” It is a DepEd Alternative Delivery Mode module (First Edition, 2020) for Grade 7 learners studying at home or in class. It has one lesson. After it, learners should be able to practice health habits that help them reach holistic health, meaning wellness in every part of their life.
On this page 7 sections
What learners will learn
The module states one learning competency:
- Practice health habits to achieve holistic health (H7GD-Ic-15)
The module explains that a good attitude, a healthy lifestyle, and good coping skills help adolescents reach and keep holistic health. Learners are asked to develop all dimensions of their health.
Health and wellness
The lesson begins by showing how health and wellness differ:
- Health is a state of complete physical, social, and mental well-being.
- Wellness is the state of being in optimal mental and physical health. It also means living your life to reach your fullest potential, making decisions and acting in healthy ways, and practicing positive health behaviors based on sound knowledge and healthy attitudes.
The module’s wellness diagram connects wellness to six dimensions:
| Dimension | What it involves |
|---|---|
| Emotional | Expressing your feelings |
| Mental | Using your mind |
| Spiritual | Finding your purpose in life |
| Physical | Knowing why being physically active matters |
| Social | Building positive relationships with others |
| Environmental | Recognizing the impact of environmental and man-made hazards |
The six dimensions of holistic health
The “What is It” part of the module explains each dimension in more detail:
- Physical health is how well your body works. It includes being physically fit, eating nutritious food, and getting enough rest and sleep.
- Mental or intellectual health is the ability to think and to improve your skills in life. A mentally healthy person is open to new ideas about life, family, and the environment.
- Emotional health is the ability to accept failure, adapt to your surroundings, and consider the feelings of others. It is also about how well you meet the demands of daily life and adjust to new situations.
- Social health is how well you build relationships and interact with people in your community. It includes adapting comfortably to different social situations and reacting in a fitting way.
- Moral-spiritual health is about your faith, beliefs, values, and purpose in life.
- Environmental health is the ability to recognize how environmental hazards affect life, and to find ways to protect yourself and the ecological systems from them.
The module’s activities use everyday habits as examples. Walking, a good diet, and staying free from sickness show physical health. Praying, goal setting, and forgiveness show moral-spiritual health. Tree planting shows environmental health. Being friendly and building relationships show social health.

Then go through the parts in order and finish with the post-test. Write all answers in your activity notebook or on a separate sheet, not on the module. Answer keys are included, and the module asks you to use them honestly, only after answering.
- Parents: Help your child read each direction before starting an activity, and talk about daily habits at home, such as rest, food, chores, and family relationships, that connect to each dimension.
- Teachers: The module notes that the teacher will photocopy the “Box me in!” activity. The lesson order can be adjusted to follow the textbook you are using.
