This is a self-learning module (SLM) for EPP-ICT, Grade 4 (Ikaapat na Baitang), from DepEd Region V under the Alternative Delivery Mode. Module 2, “Tara na sa mundo ng ICT” (Let’s go into the world of ICT), explains what ICT is, introduces the main parts of a computer, and teaches the rules for safe and responsible use of the computer, the Internet, and email. It is written in Filipino for learners studying at home, with help from a parent or guardian.
What learners will learn
The module states that, after studying it, learners will be able to:
- define ICT and explain why it is important (nabibigyang-kahulugan ang ICT at ang kahalagahan nito);
- explain the rules for using the computer, the Internet, and email (naipaliliwanag ang mga panuntunan sa paggamit ng computer, internet at email); and
- create rules to follow for the safe and responsible use of the computer, the Internet, and email.
What is ICT?
The module defines Information and Communications Technology (ICT) as the different kinds of technology used in communication to process, store, create, and share information. Its examples are the radio, television, smartphones, the computer, and the Internet.
It also introduces the DepEd Computerization Program (DCP), a DepEd program that brings modern technology to schools so that learners gain knowledge of new technology and learn better, especially in ICT. The lesson opens by asking learners about their school’s computer room and the rules they follow inside it.
Parts of a computer
A computer is made up of parts, called devices, that work together. The module groups them into three kinds:

It then explains what each part does:
- Keyboard: for typing letters, numbers, and symbols.
- Mouse: controls the on-screen pointer and tells the computer what to do.
- Desktop camera: lets you see the person you are talking to in a video chat or video conference, and takes pictures.
- Central Processing Unit (CPU): the “brain” of the computer, found inside the system unit. It tells the other parts what to do.
- Monitor: like a television; it displays the information from the computer.
- Printer: prints documents or pictures from the computer on paper.
- Speaker: plays the sound from the computer.
- CD or DVD drive: runs programs, plays media files, and burns or saves data.
Rules for safe use of the computer, Internet, and email
The module reminds learners that using ICT tools in school and elsewhere must be safe and useful for everyone. It names these risks:
- exposure to inappropriate material, such as sexual, violent, or illegal content;
- computer viruses that can damage files and stop the computer from working well;
- harassment and cyberbullying, and danger from talking with strangers;
- identity theft, where information you share is used by others to commit crimes.
To stay safe, the module lists these rules:
- Know which websites you may visit and how long you may use the computer, Internet, and email.
- Have an Internet content filter installed.
- Do not eat while using the computer.
- Visit only approved sites and use only safe search engines.
- Follow your teacher’s directions.
- Do not share information such as your email password, and use a password that is hard to guess.
- Avoid chatrooms that can put you in danger.
- Shut down the computer and turn off the Internet connection when you are done.
How to use this module
The module is arranged in parts that learners should follow in order:
- Subukin (pretest): circle the pictures of modern technology and mark an X on those that are not.
- Balikan (review): put a star on the sentences that describe a good entrepreneur, from the previous lesson.
- Tuklasin and Suriin (discover and study): questions about the computer room, then the lesson on ICT, computer parts, and safety rules.
- Pagyamanin (practice): mark each rule with a check if it is correct or an X if it is wrong.
- Isaisip (remember): name the computer part in each picture.
- Isagawa (apply): match each situation, such as sending a report card to a parent abroad, with the right action.
- Tayahin (assessment): list five computer parts and five rules for safe use.
- Karagdagang Gawain (additional activity): make a collage showing the importance of ICT using old newspapers, brochures, magazines, cartolina, scissors, a marker, and glue, then explain it in 2 to 4 sentences. A 15-point rubric scores content, creativity, and neatness.
For learners: Do not write on the module. Answer on a separate sheet of paper, and contact your teacher if you have trouble understanding the lesson.
For parents: The module has an answer key (Susi sa Pagwawasto) so you can check your child’s work. The module asks that it be used honestly, after your child has answered.
For teachers: The pretest shows which learners need more help, and the collage and rubric can serve as the lesson’s performance task.

Paunang Salita
Ang Self-Learning Module o SLM na ito ay maingat na inihanda para sa ating mag-aaral sa kanilang pag-aaral sa tahanan. Binubuo ito ng iba’t-ibang bahagi na gagabay sa kanila upang maunawaan ang bawat aralin at malinang ang mga kasanayang itinakda ng kurikulum.
Ang modyul na ito ay may inilaang Gabay sa Guro/ Tagapagpadaloy na naglalaman ng mga paalala, pantulong o estratehiyang magagamit ng mga magulang o kung sinumang gagabay at tutulong sa pag-aaral sa kani-kanilang tahanan.
Ito ay may kalakip na paunang pagsusulit upang masukat ang nalalaman ng mag-aaral na may kinalaman sa inihandang aralin. Ito ang magsasabi kung kailangan niya ng ibayong tulong mula sa tagapagdaloy o sa guro. Mayroon ding pagsusulit sa bawat pagtatapos ng aralin upang masukat naman ang natutunan. May susi ng pagwawasto upang makita kung tama o mali ang mga sagot sa bawat gawain at pagsusulit. Inaasahan namin na magiging matapat ang bawat isa sa paggamit nito.
Pinapaalalahanan din ang mga mag-aaral na ingatan ang SLM na ito upang magamit pa ng ibang mangangailangan. Huwag susulatan o mamarkahan ang anumang bahagi ng modyul. Gumamit lamang ng hiwalay na papel sa pagsagot sa pagsasanay.
Hinihikayat ang mga mag-aaral na makipag-ugnayan agad sa kanilang guro kung sila ay makararanas ng suliranin sa pag-unawa sa mga aralin at paggamit ng SLM na ito.
Sa pamamagitan ng modyul na ito at sa tulong ng ating mga tagapagdaloy, umaasa kami na matututo ang ating mag-aaral kahit wala sila sa paaralan.
Alamin
Ano nga ba ang ICT? Ano ba ang tungkuling ginagampanan nito sa pang araw-araw nating buhay. Ito ba ay nakakatulong o nakakasagabal sa ating pagkatuto? Paano ba ito nakakatulong sa atin bilang mag-aaral? Ilan lamang yan sa mga katanungang sasagutin ng modyul na ito.
Sa modyul na ito ay inaasahang matutunan ang mga sumusunod:
- nabibigyang-kahulugan ang ICT at ang kahalagahan nito;
- naipaliliwanag ang mga panuntunan sa paggamit ng computer, internet at email; at

Ano nga ba ang ICT?
Information and Communications Technology o ICT na tumutukoy sa iba’t ibang uri ng teknolohiya na ginagamit sa komunikasyon upang maproseso, mag-imbak, lumikha, at magbahagi ng mga impormasyon. Ilan sa mga halimbawa nito ay radio, telebisyon, smart phones, computer at Internet.

Tiyakin kung aling websites ang maaaring bisitahin at kung gaano katagal maaaring gumamit ng computer,internet at email.
Magpainstall o magpalagay ng internet content filter.
Ipagbawal ang pagkain habang gumagamit ng computer.
Bisitahin lamang ang aprobadong sites sa internet.
Sundin ang direksyon ng guro.
Huwag mamahagi ng impormasyon tulad ng password ng email.
Ipagbawal ang chatrooms na magdudulot ng kapahamakan
Gamitin lamang ang ligtas na search engine
Gumamit ng mahirap hulaan na password
I -shut down at ioff ang internet connection kung tapos na itong gamitin.
Sa paggamit ng ICT kailangang panatilihing ligtas ang mga binubuksang sites at iwasan ang mga makakasamang bagay na makakasira ng pangalan mo.
