What a Daily Lesson Log contains
A DLL is a teacher’s plan for a whole week of lessons. It is organized into parts that guide what you teach, how you teach it, and how you look back on the week. Three of its main parts are explained below.
Objectives
- Objectives are meant to be met over the week and must connect to the curriculum standards.
- Weekly objectives come from the curriculum guide (CG).
- To meet them, follow the needed procedures. If learners need more help, you may add lessons, exercises, and remedial activities to build content knowledge and skills.
- Progress toward the objectives is checked through formative assessment.
- Valuing objectives support the learning of content and skills and help children find meaning and joy in the lessons.
Content
- Content is what the lesson is about: the subject matter the teacher aims to teach.
- In the curriculum guide, one content topic may be covered in one or two weeks.
Reflection
- At the end of the week, reflect on your teaching and assess yourself as a teacher.
- Think about your learners’ progress. What worked? What else needs to be done to help them learn?
- Note what help your instructional supervisors can give, so you can ask them relevant questions when you meet.
How to use this DLL
- Teachers: Review the Week 1 log before the week starts. Check that its objectives match the curriculum guide you follow, and adjust activities to fit your class.
- During the week: Use formative assessment to see whether learners are meeting the objectives, and add remedial activities when needed.
- After the week: Fill in the reflection part honestly. It helps you plan the next week and prepare questions for your supervisor.
