This Self-Learning Module (SLM) is prepared so that you, our dear learners, can continue your studies and learn while at home. Activities, questions, directions, exercises, and discussions are carefully stated for you to understand each lesson.

This module was designed and written to introduce to you a better understanding of stratification and how layers of rocks (stratified rocks) are formed. It includes the study of how these rocks relate to time.
The learners will study Earth’s history by studying the record of past events that is preserved in the rocks.
At the end of this module, the successful learner will be able to:
1. identify different types of rocks and how they are formed;
2. describe how layers of rocks (stratified rocks) are formed;
3. explain the processes in the formation of sedimentary rocks.
