This is the Grade 5 Music self-learning module for the third quarter, Module 3: “Mga Anyong Unitary at Strophic” (the unitary and strophic forms). It was prepared by DepEd Region VIII as an Alternative Delivery Mode module for learners studying at home. By the end, learners should be able to tell the two simple musical forms apart and write their own short songs in each form.
On this page 6 sections
What learners will learn
The module expects learners to compose a four-line song with two verses in strophic form. Its objectives are:
- Identify the unitary and strophic forms.
- Compose a four-line song in unitary form.
- Compose a four-line song with two verses in strophic form.
Key ideas: unitary and strophic form
The module explains that anyo (form) is an element of music. It refers to the structure of a song. There are many forms that can serve as the basis for creating a song or piece of music, and two of the simplest are unitary and strophic.
| Form | What it means | Letter symbol |
|---|---|---|
| Unitary | The song has only one verse, so it has a single section. | A |
| Strophic | One melody is heard again and again in every verse of the song. | AA (two verses), AAA (three verses) |
Using letters to show sections
A song can be divided into sections, and each section is named with a letter.
- In unitary form there is only one section, written as A.
- In strophic form, the melody of one section is repeated in another verse. A verse with one melody is called A. If that melody is repeated a second time in another verse, the song has the sections AA. If it is repeated a third time, it has AAA.
The words change, the melody stays
The answer key adds an important point: in a strophic song, even when the lyrics change from verse to verse, the melody stays the same throughout the whole song.
Example from the module
The module uses the folk song “Bahay Kubo” as its example. It is in strophic form and has two verses, so its sections are AA. The module also uses the song “Ako Ay May Lobo” in its discovery activity.
Activities in the module
The module follows the usual self-learning module parts:
- Subukin (pretest): a 10-item test with true-or-false and fill-in items.
- Balikan (review): a review using notes on the music staff.
- Tuklasin (discover): questions about the songs “Bahay Kubo” and “Ako Ay May Lobo”, such as how many lines and verses they have and what form they are in.
- Suriin (analyze): the lesson on form, unitary, and strophic.
- Pagyamanin (enrich): unscramble jumbled letters to spell the names of the two forms.
- Isaisip (remember): explain what to keep in mind when making a song in unitary or strophic form.
- Isagawa (apply): find two songs in unitary form and two in strophic form and write them in a table.
- Tayahin (assess): identify the form of five songs: “Pamulinawen”, “Jingle Bells”, “Manang Biday”, “Leron Leron Sinta”, and “Are You Sleeping?”
- Karagdagang Gawain (additional activity): sing the songs found in Isagawa and write down how you felt while singing them.
How to use this module
The module asks learners to start with the pretest, which shows whether they need extra help from their teacher or facilitator. They then work through the parts in order and finish with the final test. An answer key, “Susi sa Pagwawasto”, is included so learners can check their work, and the module asks everyone to use it honestly.
- Learners: Do not write on the module. Use a separate sheet of paper for all your answers. Contact your teacher right away if a lesson is hard to understand.
- Parents and guardians: Help your child find and sing familiar songs for the Isagawa activity, and listen for whether the same melody repeats in each verse.
- Teachers: The module comes with a teacher’s or facilitator’s guide with reminders and strategies for those guiding learners at home. The Isagawa answers are the learners’ own, so check them by listening to or reviewing the songs they chose.
The module’s reference is the textbook Halinang Umawit at Gumuhit 5 by Hazel Copiaco and Emilio Jacinto Jr. (pages 51 to 55).

I can’t transcribe pages 5 to 8 yet because they aren’t in the attachment. The file contains four pages, labeled 1 to 4 by the PDF’s own page numbers. They cover the module’s opening: “Alamin,” the “Subukin” test (Parts I and II), and the start of Aralin 3 with “Balikan,” “Tuklasin,” and the songs “Bahay Kubo” and “Ako Ay May Lobo.”
Please upload the pages for PDF pages 5 to 8. If the attachment is meant to be those pages, the file may have been exported incorrectly. Once I have the correct pages, I’ll transcribe them with page markers 5 to 8 in the same format as the earlier pages.
Suriin
